Stucco Repairs

You may be able to save lots of money by having stucco applied to your brick or cinder block chimney!!

The photo below show a block chimney that has sustained freeze damage that has resulted in the faces of the block “spalling” (falling off.)

Stucco repairs to chimney

First we build out the spalled surfaces with mortar or sand and cement mix. Then we install metal lathing (screen material) using Tapcon masonry screws. This acts as a sort of rebar to reinforce the applied stucco mix. This method makes for stucco that will not crack over time. It is critical that after a 30 day cure time the chimney is either waterproofed with siloxane or painted with a high quality masonry paint. We use Sherwin Williams products exclusively.

The first 2 coats of stucco mix are applied. The second coat is a  “scratch” coat. Horizontal grooves are made in the mortar to help with adherence for the next coat. Stucco mix is an engineered product that has small nylon fibres mixed in for added strength in the mix.
